Lot 255: A SUFI TALISMANIC ENGRAVED BRASS PLAQUE BY ABU AL-HASAN HAFIZIAN, 19TH CENTURY

This circular talismanic object consists of a metal plaque, likely brass, mounted to a turned wooden base by three slotted screws. The plate is elaborately decorated with concentric bands and radial divisions containing Arabic calligraphy and spiritual symbols. The outermost bands are engraved with the Ayat al-Kursi (The Throne Verse, Quran 2:255), a protective text widely used in Islamic mystical traditions. The inner section is divided into segments containing abjad letters, numerals, and stylized sigils typical of Sufi talismanic charts. A small central medallion contains the word Allah. The engravings were originally highlighted with a black contrast infill, much of which has been lost through time. An engraved line of script at the bottom edge of the metal plate reads ابوالحسن حافظيان. These characters spell the name Abu al-Hasan Hafizian, identifying the piece as the work of the renowned 20th-century Iranian Sufi scholar and mystic Sayyid Abu’l-Hasan Hafizian (1903–1981).
