Lot 219: A LARGE SARAF ENAMELLED COPPER DECORATIVE TRAY, SYRIA, 19TH CENTURY

A Syrian Saraf decorative tray, constructed from copper with polychrome enamel decoration. The circular vessel features a complex arrangement of overlapping medallions, creating a geometric star-like composition at the centre. Each medallion and the intervening spaces are densely filled with minute floral motifs and scrolling foliate patterns, typical of late 19th-century Damascus craftsmanship. The colour palette comprises cobalt blue, turquoise, rose pink, white, and green. The outer rim is finished with a repeating chevron border in varying shades of green, pink, and blue. The edges show the underlying copper base.
