Lot 217: A KASHMIRI ENAMELLED COPPER HANGING LAMP, INDIA, 19TH CENTURY

A polychrome enamelled copper hanging lamp from Kashmir, featuring a bulbous body supported by a small rounded foot and rising to a flared hexagonal neck. The exterior is decorated throughout with vibrant champlevé enamel work in a palette of turquoise, cobalt blue, emerald green, canary yellow, and rose pink. The decorative scheme consists of stylised floral palmettes and foliate scrolls within ogival compartments, bordered by geometric bands. Two loop handles are attached to the shoulder, securing three dark-toned metal suspension chains. The vessel is accompanied by a matching domed lid, similarly decorated with floral motifs. The interior of the neck and the underside of the lid reveal the base metal with a dark oxidised patina and traces of green verdigris.
