AN ENGRAVED COPPER ALLOY BASIN DEPICTS WARRIOR ON HORSEBACK, LATE TIMURID OR SAFAVID , 16TH – 17TH CENTURY

An Islamic engraved copper alloy basin featuring a wide, shallow body and a flared rim. The interior features a circular medallion at the centre depicting a mounted warrior on horseback, armed with a lance and a circular buckler, wearing a conical helmet. The figure is set against a background of scrolling foliate arabesques. This central roundel is framed by multiple concentric borders including a pearl band. The inner rim is decorated with a series of elongated cartouches containing cursive calligraphic script, likely Thuluth style, alternating with smaller circular medallions. The exterior of the bowl shows further bands of incised decoration.
