AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN GREEN-GLAZED FAIENCE AMULET OF A KNEELING DEITY, LATE PERIOD, CIRCA 664-332 B.C.

This Ancient Egyptian green-glazed faience amulet dates to the Late Period, circa 664–332 BC. The object depicts a kneeling male figure in a supportive posture, an iconography frequently associated with deities such as Heh, the personification of infinity and eternity, or Shu, the god of the air. The figure is shown with arms raised and hands positioned flat against a rectangular platform or stylised architectural element resting atop the head. The deity is rendered with characteristic stocky proportions, featuring a broad face with large almond-shaped eyes and a wide nose. The hair or wig is detailed with vertical ribbing, and the figure is dressed in a short, vertically pleated kilt. The reverse of the amulet features a prominent, integral vertical back pillar, a standard structural element for protective charms of this period.
