Lot 4: FATEH MOUDARRES (SYRIA, 1922-1999), MODERNIST SCENE WITH HORSE AND FIGURES, WATERCOLOUR AND INK, 1968

A modernist expressionistic composition executed in watercolour and black ink on brown ribbed laid paper. The gestural scene depicts a horse grazing in a rural or market setting, surrounded by various sketchily rendered figures and animals. To the left, a figure is depicted holding a large sieve or basket. The composition uses bold, calligraphic lines and sparse washes of brown, ochre, and reddish-pink. The work is signed MOUDERRES and dated 1968 in black ink at the bottom centre. It is presented within an off-white mount and a textured gold-gilt frame.
