A STEATITE STONE FIGURE OF A SEATED BEARDED MAN IN THE FORM OF A VESSEL, GREEK PERIOD, 2ND CENTURY B.C
The figure features a human head with a stylised tiered beard and a cylindrical crown, joined to the couchant body of a winged bull or lion. The bowl is positioned at the rear of the figure and is connected to a base that features a horizontal aperture for the insertion of a separate stem. The object is fashioned from a dark, mottled metamorphic stone, steatite, displaying deep charcoal tones with ochre and olive-green veining.
