Lot 240: A COLLECTION OF PRE-COLUMBIAN MANABI/QUIMBAYA OR EARLY SLAMIC SPINDLE WHORLS AND BEADS

A collection of ancient artifacts attributed to the Manabi / Quimbaya cultures of Pre-Columbian South America or Early Islamic. The group comprises various small-scale objects including multiple spindle whorls, a miniature vessel, and a decorated bead. These items are fashioned from fired terracotta and carved stone, possibly including steatite and basalt. The forms include biconical, globular, and stepped-conical shapes, several of which feature central vertical perforations for their use in textile production. The surfaces are decorated with hand-incised and engraved geometric motifs such as hatched triangles, chevrons, horizontal banding, and scrolling linear patterns. One small dark bead displays incised concentric eye motifs.
