Lot 224: A COLLECTION OF FIVE OTTOMAN BEYKOZ GLASS SCENT VIALS, TURKEY, 19TH CENTURY

This collection consists of five glass scent vials attributed to the Beykoz glassworks of the Ottoman Empire, dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century. These elongated vessels, historically associated with the term lachrymatories or tear catchers, were designed to hold perfume or aromatic salts. The group showcases various glass-making and decorative techniques prevalent in the Ottoman period. One vial is hand-blown clear glass decorated with gilded foliate scrolls and retains a weathered cork stopper. A second vial features a mould-blown beaded texture further embellished with horizontal gilded bands. The third specimen is crafted from translucent teal-green glass, decorated with gilded classical motifs including floral sprigs. The fourth vial is clear glass with a faceted body and heavy gilded scrolling, finished with a metal collar to the neck. The final vial is clear glass decorated with hand-painted polychrome enamel floral sprigs in orange, blue, and yellow with green foliage, accented with gilded bands.
