Lot 193: AN IZNIK POTTERY DISH, OTTOMAN TURKEY, LATE 16TH CENTURY

An Ottoman Iznik pottery dish of shallow rounded form with a flattened rim, produced in Turkey. The fritware body is decorated in underglaze polychrome pigments including cobalt blue, emerald green, and raised reddish-brown (Armenian bole) against a white ground. The central well features an asymmetrical floral composition with a large, curving serrated saz leaf, flanked by stylised tulips and large carnation blossoms (pinks) with black-outlined foliage. The rim is decorated with a black and white wave and rock scroll border. The exterior is painted with alternating small floral rosettes in blue and green. A string is attached to the unglazed foot ring for display purposes.
