Lot 134: A QAJAR SILVER MOUNTED INSCRIBED CARNELIAN TALISMANIC PENDANT, PERSIA, 19TH CENTURY

This Persian talismanic pendant from the Qajar period features a rectangular carnelian tablet, traditionally known as aqiq, held within a simple white metal rub-over frame. The stone is decorated with calligraphic inscriptions executed in the intaglio technique. The central field contains a fluid inscription in nasta’liq script reading Tawakkaltu ‘ala Allah, which translates to I have placed my trust in God. Surrounding this central panel is a wide border of densely carved microscopic calligraphy, a hallmark of 19th-century Persian lapidary work. These borders typically feature the Ayat al-Kursi or other protective prayers.
