Lot 123: AN OTTOMAN GILDED AND POLYCHROME WOODEN DEVOTIONAL HAJJ COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE

An arched wooden devotional plaque featuring a central representation of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The Kaaba is depicted as a central black cube, surrounded by a circular map of the sanctuary gates and shrines within a radiating sunburst border. The lower register shows a stylized landscape representing the city of Mecca and pilgrimage sites with houses, tents, and palm trees. The upper arch contains two blue roundels inscribed with Allah and Muhammad in gold calligraphy, flanked by floral motifs including tulips and carnations. A large lobed cartouche at the base contains a three-line gold inscription of verses 96 and 97 from Surah Al-Imran. The top centre is inscribed with the Basmala in black calligraphy. The piece is constructed from a single wooden panel with hand-painted and gilded decoration over a prepared ground.
