Lot 282: AN IALAMIC CALLIGRAPHIC SILK AND COTTON TEXTILE FRAGMENT, 20TH CENTURY
0 views
The central inscription is executed in a gold-tone metallic pigment using a formal thuluth script. The Arabic text reads: رضي الله تعالى عن أبي بكر وعمر وعثمان وعلي وعن باقي الصحابة أجمعين. This translates to: May God Almighty be pleased with Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, and with all the rest of the Companions. This specific prayer, known as a taradhi, is a Sunni devotional formula honoring the four Rightly Guided Caliphs and the companions of the Prophet Muhammad. The construction consists of the primary calligraphic panel secured to the secondary support with irregular hand-stitching. The style and religious content are consistent with Sunni textile production from the Ottoman Empire.
