Lot 243: A HIMALAYAN FRAGMENTARY GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF A DEITY, TIBET OR NEPAL, 18TH CENTURY

This gilt bronze fragment represents the lower section of a larger composite statue, likely originating from the Himalayan region of Tibet or Nepal. The figure is depicted in a dynamic crouching posture with the left foot planted and the right leg folded beneath. The figure wears a dhoti featuring rhythmic horizontal folds and borders decorated with finely incised floral and scrolling patterns. The ankles are adorned with beaded anklets, with the left foot retaining a single inset green stone, possibly turquoise or glass, within the beaded band. The piece is constructed from a copper alloy using fire-gilding techniques. A large circular aperture at the top reveals a hollow interior, indicating the point of attachment for the upper torso.
