Lot 180: A THREE PAIRS OF INDIAN CAST COPPER ALLOY TRIBAL ANKLETS, SOUTH INDIA DECCAN, 17TH CENTURY

This collection consists of three pairs of Indian tribal anklets, also known as paini or chilampa, crafted from cast copper alloy such as bronze or brass. These items were produced using traditional metalworking techniques, specifically the lost-wax casting process, and feature hand-finished and chased ornamentation. The first pair is characterized by a slender, oval-shaped body decorated with a continuous rope-twist texture and clusters of three ribbed bell-form ornaments at the terminals. The second pair features a heavy, thick-walled construction with raised ornamental bands containing granulated motifs and recessed geometric patterns. The third pair has a wide, flatter cross-section with intricate low-relief patterns including fine parallel lines and ornamental bosses. These artifacts originate from South Asia, specifically the Himalayan, Rajasthan, or Bihar regions of India. Provenance: Property of a United States-based estate.
