Lot 11: A CHINESE QURAN SECTION (JUZ), 19TH CENTURY

This 19th century Chinese Quran section (juz) is an Arabic manuscript executed on handmade cream paper. The volume is bound in a dark brown leather hardcover featuring heavy blind-tooling and embossing. The decorative program on the binding includes intricate geometric borders, stylized swastikas, and a central calligraphic medallion. The interior endpapers are composed of a yellow and black honeycomb textile. The text is written in a bold Naskh script in black ink, with vocalization and specific headings, such as Surah Maryam, rendered in red ink. The opening leaves are decorated with illuminated borders in gold and polychrome pigments, featuring geometric and foliate motifs alongside teardrop-shaped marginal ornaments. The manuscript contains several markings, including a white label with blue characters بانسا, a label with the digit 5, and a tan paper label with handwritten Arabic script and the number 113 on the front cover.
