Islamic Art and Fine Objects
Lot 98:
Description
A collection of Islamic tile fragments, including Safavid and 17th century Multan examples, likely originating from Kashan or related Persian production centers. The group features polychrome glazed earthenware with various floral and geometric motifs. Two rectangular border fragments display a yellow ground with repeating cobalt blue foliate scrolls set within vibrant green borders. A third rectangular fragment features a detailed floral pattern in black and white with blue-green accents and a geometric border. The largest, irregularly shaped fragment shows a partial scene with a green field, white and yellow flowers, and turquoise scrollwork. The construction utilizes the cuerda seca technique, and the glazed surfaces exhibit fine craquelure throughout. The reverses show coarse, unglazed earthenware bodies with residual mortar from previous architectural installation.
