Description
This Iznik Cintamani pottery border tile from Ottoman Turkey, dating to circa 1570, is a rectangular glazed ceramic work presented in a mitered wooden frame. The decoration features the traditional cintamani pattern, composed of repeating triple-circle motifs and stylized wavy diagonal stripes, executed in a palette of cobalt blue and turquoise against a white ground. The verso of the frame is finished with a paper backing that includes a handwritten gift inscription dated July 11th 1935. Additionally, a partial dealer label for Wm. T. Wilson, Fine Art Dealer, is affixed to the lower left of the backing.
