Description

A Damascus underglaze-painted pottery border tile of rectangular form, dating to the late 16th century. The fritware body is decorated with large, serrated saz leaves intertwined with floral sprays and scrolling vines. The design is executed in a palette of cobalt blue, turquoise, sage green, and white against a rich cobalt blue ground. The composition is framed by thin black borders along the top and bottom edges. The reverse remains unglazed, showing a characteristic buff-colored ceramic body.
