Description

This Iznik pottery tile is of square form and features a glazed surface over a buff-colored ceramic body. The symmetrical floral arabesque decoration is rendered in shades of cobalt blue and turquoise against a white ground. The composition is centered on a floral boss within a lattice of scrolling vines, serrated saz leaves, and stylized flower heads. The reverse of the tile is unglazed, revealing the buff-colored ceramic body with characteristic surface irregularities.
