Lot 42:
Description
This Ottoman gilt-copper tombak sahan consists of a two-piece construction featuring a shallow circular base and a tiered, high-domed lid. The copper surface is decorated with several registers of engraved and chased foliate and floral motifs set within mandorla-shaped cartouches. The lid is topped with a fluted and gadrooned finial in a contrasting gilt metal. The interior of the bowl displays concentric markings, and the exterior surfaces show the characteristic finish of the tombak gilding process. The vessel follows the traditional form of Turkish lidded serving dishes from the 18th or 19th century.
