Description

A pair of 18th century Ottoman tombak stirrups of gilded metal construction. Each stirrup features a wide, slightly curved rectangular tread with a central star-shaped cutout surrounded by six circular drainage holes. The exterior side panels are decorated in high relief with scrolling foliate patterns and prominent crescent moon and star motifs. The arches terminate in an integrated, ribbed circular loop designed for the stirrup strap. The surfaces exhibit the characteristic mercury gilding associated with the tombak technique.
