Lot 370:
Description
This Chinese blue and white porcelain jar features a globular body with a short, slightly everted neck. The exterior is decorated in underglaze cobalt blue, depicting two mythical shishi, or Buddhist lions, playing amidst scrolling peony blossoms and dense foliage. A sawtooth border encircles the upper shoulder above two small ceramic loop handles, through which a dark, twisted rope is threaded. The vessel’s interior is glazed, while the slightly recessed base remains unglazed, showing firing irregularities consistent with provincial manufacturing.
