Description
Antique Islamic Ottoman or Safavid astrological Qibla compass and sundial, attributed by market consensus to the early 18th century. This rectangular brass instrument features a suspension ring and is extensively engraved on both sides. The front face displays a complex circular dial with concentric rings of Arabic script and zodiacal symbols, centered by a stylized, rotating bird-shaped pointer. Positioned below the main dial is an integrated circular compass housed behind a star-shaped glass aperture. The reverse side is engraved with a large grid containing numerical and calligraphic characters within diagonal and horizontal divisions. The instrument exhibits Persian calligraphic influence and traditional Islamic scientific motifs consistent with historical astronomical tools.
