Lot 367:
Description
This boulder-form seal is carved from a translucent yellow stone identified as Shoushan or Tianhuang, featuring characteristic reddish veining throughout. The piece is worked in relief with a traditional landscape scene depicting two figures in a small boat upon water, set against a backdrop of a gnarled pine tree and a hillside pavilion. The side of the stone is incised with two columns of Chinese characters reading Dingmao sanyue (the third month of the Dingmao year) and the signature Shen Kai zuo (Made by Shen Kai). The flat oval base is deeply incised with a multi-character seal script and retains traces of red cinnabar paste.
