Description
Chinese huanghuali wood storage chest featuring intricate mother-of-pearl shell inlays. The dark-stained wood exterior is embellished with shell-inlaid floral motifs in vases on the double front doors and bird-and-branch scenes on the hinged top lid. The piece is reinforced with brass corner protectors and hinges, featuring a prominent circular ruyi-style lock plate and two rectangular door pulls. Each side panel is inset with a circular marble or stone medallion. Opening the top lid reveals a shallow compartment, while the front doors open to an interior fitted with six small drawers with simple ring pulls. The chest rests on a scalloped base.
