Description
A Japanese Meiji period circular mixed-metal dish featuring high-relief and inlaid decoration. The central well depicts a mounted samurai in armor battling a tiger with a spear. The construction utilizes gold, silver, and alloys including shakudo and shibuichi. The wide, lobed rim is decorated with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst geometric diaper patterns. The reverse displays the repoussé technique used to create the dimensional figures.
