Lot 355:
Description
A carved oak figure of an apostle, executed in the late Gothic style and probably dating to the 15th or 16th century. The standing male figure is depicted with a full beard and shoulder-length hair, wearing long, draped robes. The figure holds a closed book in the left hand while the right hand is placed over the chest. The sculpture is carved from oak and exhibits a deep, naturally weathered patina with visible grain. A small circular hole is present on the reverse, likely for mounting. The figure is mounted on a later rectangular base upholstered in red velvet with gold-toned metallic fringe.
