Description
An Iraqi silver and niello silhouette sculpture of a traditional sailing vessel, dating to the mid-20th century. The flat metal piece is worked in the niello technique, featuring blackened engraved details against a silver ground. The decoration depicts a dhow with stylized figures on the deck and intricate rigging. A prominent butterfly motif is centered on the sail, which also features a large circular cutout. The sculpture is mounted on a simple, rounded rectangular base of brown-painted wood. The reverse of the metal silhouette is undecorated.
