Description
An Ottoman silver handled cup featuring niello decoration. The vessel is of tapering form raised on a short circular foot. The exterior is ornamented with niello floral and foliate scrollwork framing circular medallions. One medallion depicts a detailed domed architectural structure, while another contains heraldic motifs with calligraphic inscriptions in Arabic or Persian script. The interior is gilded and shows small stamped hallmarks. The C-scroll handle is surmounted by a cast bird-form thumb rest.
