Description
This Yemeni Jewish silver besamim spice box is handcrafted using traditional filigree and granulation techniques. The cylindrical vessel features a hinged, domed lid, both of which are densely decorated with intricate scrolling wirework and applied silver granules arranged in stylized floral motifs. The box is elevated on a flared, scalloped base composed of heart-shaped filigree panels. Traces of original gilding are visible on the interior and in the recessed areas of the exterior ornamentation. The construction reflects the Bawsani style of metalwork.
