Description
A pair of Safavid glass rosewater sprinklers, known as gulabdans, attributed to 17th century Persia. Each vessel is constructed from cobalt blue glass and features a globular body set upon a flared circular foot. The anatomy of each piece includes a tall tapering neck with a wide flared rim, a slender curved spout, and an applied decorative handle. The vessels are embellished with gilded floral and foliate motifs. A twisted glass band encircles the base of the neck on both examples. One vessel displays significantly more extensive overall gilding than the other. The decorative handles are executed in contrasting tones of yellowish and dark glass, with the yellowish handle featuring a textured, ribbed design.
