Description

AN ISLAMIC TIRAZ STYLE LAMPAS WOVEN TEXTILE PANEL WITH ARABIC INSCRIPTIONS, ANATOLIA TURKEY, 18TH – 19TH CENTURY

An Islamic Tiraz style lampas woven textile panel featuring Arabic inscriptions. This rectangular textile is constructed using a lampas-weave technique incorporating metallic silver and gold threads alongside shades of beige, brown, and red. The composition is organized into multiple horizontal decorative bands. The central band contains three cartouches with stylized Arabic calligraphy in dark blue script, translating to religious invocations including Ya Hayy Ya Qayyum (O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting). Surrounding bands display repeating motifs of pomegranates, geometric lattices, and foliate borders. The lower edge is finished with a dark, scalloped decorative trim. The reverse shows the structural weave and the carry-over of threads.
