Description
An Anglo-Indian folding book stand, also known as a rehal, crafted from sandalwood with intricate bone inlays. The object features a sawtooth-edged upper profile and four primary panels. Each panel is decorated with pierced foliate scrollwork, bone-inlaid borders, and multiple small circular bosses. A central oval medallion on one panel is inscribed with the initials M.S.W. in black. Additional panels contain medallions with etched figures in the Mughal style, including a reclining figure and various figures in traditional attire. The lower section is shaped with an ogee arch, featuring matching scrollwork and figure medallions. The piece utilizes a traditional interlocking hinge mechanism for folding.
