Lot 31:
Description
This Indian carved jade quran stand, also known as a marufaa, is constructed from two interlocking, hinged panels that open to form an X-shaped cradle. The object is carved from mottled pale green jade with a translucent quality. One panel features a central field of pierced geometric lattice-work, while the other is decorated with openwork floral and vine motifs positioned above a scalloped arch that forms the legs. The outer edges are finished with a serrated border accented by small circular piercings.
