Description

A MAHOGANY FIRE SCREEN WITH INSET PERSIAN SILK EMBROIDERY PANEL, 19TH CENTURY

A freestanding fire screen featuring a rectangular mahogany frame with a decorative shaped handle at the top, supported on two trestle feet. The frame exhibits a reddish-brown finish and a solid wood back panel with prominent graining. The frame houses an inset embroidered textile panel behind glass. The embroidery is executed in a palette of pink, blue, and green silks on a cream-colored ground, depicting floral and foliate patterns. The textile is divided into two main sections: the upper portion with a repeating floral arrangement and the lower portion containing two buta motifs framed by decorative borders. The construction utilizes traditional joinery and a solid wood backboard.
