Description
This 19th-century Persian manuscript scroll contains the Dua Kumayl (Supplication of Kumayl) executed in black naskh script on paper. The opening section features an illuminated sarlawh or headpiece, decorated with gold leaf, lapis blue, and polychrome pigments in floral arabesque patterns. The title of the prayer is written in red calligraphy within a central cartouche. The text block is enclosed by multiple ruled borders in gold, blue, and red, with floral motifs in the margins. The scroll is attached to a flexible brown leather protective flap at the lead edge.
