Lot 289:
Description
A Mughal carved celadon jade washer or shallow dish, dating to the 18th century. The piece is fashioned from a pale greenish-gray stone with mottled inclusions and a polished finish. The form is modeled as a stylized, lobed peach, with the interior divided into three shallow, bowl-like sections following the contours of the fruit. The exterior and rim are decorated with high-relief and openwork carvings of scrolling vines and leafy stems that wrap around the body to create decorative handles. This piece reflects the Mughal style of jade carving that was influential during the Qing Dynasty.
