Description

This small bronze Khorasan spoon is cast from a copper alloy and features a deep, teardrop-shaped bowl joined to a long, flat, straight handle. The handle is decorated on both sides with a repeating, incised guilloche or wave pattern, while the reverse of the bowl shows chased foliate or scrollwork motifs. A series of indistinct characters are visible along the upper rim on the exterior of the bowl. The construction and decorative program are characteristic of metalwork from the Khorasan region.
