Description
An engraved Mamluk brass magic bowl, attributed to Egypt or Syria and dating to the late 15th or 16th century. The object is a shallow, circular vessel featuring a central raised boss known as an omphalos. Both the interior and exterior surfaces are densely decorated with hand-engraved calligraphic bands and panels containing Arabic script, typically comprising protective formulas or religious verses. The exterior decoration is organized into a series of geometric cartouches surrounding a recessed circular base. The brass shows a golden-toned patina throughout.
