Description

A Persian brass magic bowl from the Zand period, of shallow circular form. The vessel is constructed from a brass alloy and features dense engraved decoration on both the interior and exterior surfaces. The interior is centered by a raised omphalos with radiating linear patterns, surrounded by concentric registers of calligraphic Arabic script and scrolling foliate motifs. The exterior base contains a recessed central medallion bordered by eight circular roundels, each containing calligraphic inscriptions representing planetary or zodiacal names. These elements are set against a background of intricate scrolling vines and further bands of script.
