Lot 280:
Description
This 18th century Persian Safavid powder flask features a curved, boot-shaped body constructed from a dark-toned material, likely horn. The vessel is embellished with intricate, pierced steel mounts that retain remnants of gilding in a geometric lattice pattern around the upper rim, the hinged lid, and along the inner curved edge. A small ring handle is positioned on the lid, and several functional levers and catches are integrated into the metal framework along the spine to regulate the release of powder. The construction and decorative lattice work are characteristic of Islamic metalwork from the Safavid period.
