Description

An Egyptian Mamluk style vase, commonly referred to as Cairoware, featuring a cylindrical form constructed from a dark-patinated base metal, likely brass or bronze. The exterior is ornamented with elaborate silver and copper inlays. The decorative scheme consists of multiple horizontal bands containing Thuluth-style Arabic calligraphy, which are interspersed with panels of interlocking arabesques, palmettes, and foliate motifs. The vessel is designed with a flared dish-form rim with a braided border and rests on a low, slightly flared circular foot. Faint hand-etched markings are visible on the underside of the base.
