Description
A pair of large candlesticks crafted from a copper alloy in the Mamluk style. Each candlestick is designed with a broad, truncated conical base supporting a tall cylindrical shaft punctuated by rounded moldings and topped with a flared wax pan. The decorative scheme consists of intricate pierced openwork medallions containing calligraphic and foliate arabesques, set against a background of fine surface engraving. Bands of Arabic calligraphy encircle the lower portion of the bases. The construction features integrated openwork and engraved decorative bands consistent with Islamic metalworking traditions.
