AN ISLAMIC SELJUK CALLIGRAPHIC TERRACOTTA ROUNDEL STAMP OR MOULD, PERSIA, 11TH – 13TH CENTURY
This circular, disc-shaped object is an Islamic calligraphic roundel, likely functioning as a stamp or mold, crafted from light brown terracotta. The front face features a raised central roundel decorated with an intricate, interlaced geometric pattern. This central motif is encircled by a broad band of calligraphic Arabic script in a style characteristic of the medieval period, similar to known examples inscribed with the phrase Ya Aziz. A small, shallow indentation is positioned at the exact center of the decorated face. The reverse side is unfinished and uneven, exhibiting a rough, pitted surface.
