Lot 248:
Description
This religious pendant is a Byzantine cross made of mother of pearl, featuring a quatrefoil form with a central raised Latin cross in relief. The piece is crafted from iridescent shell and incorporates four circular cutouts within the arms of the quatrefoil. A single integral suspension hole is positioned at the top for use as a necklace. The reverse of the pendant is flat. The surface displays a natural mother-of-pearl luster beneath extensive reddish-brown staining and patina, which may indicate prolonged contact with soil or iron-rich elements. No maker marks or inscriptions are present.
