Description

This Roman-Byzantine gold pendant features a central carved white cameo depicting a bust-length figure with arms crossed over the chest. The central cameo is encircled by a ring of small, irregular pearls. An outer band is set with alternating rectangular green stones and teardrop-shaped red stones, all secured in bezel settings. The piece is finished with a twisted rope-style border and includes a suspension bail at the top flanked by two additional pearls. The construction exhibits a hammered, uneven texture on the reverse side with a visible patina. The materials include gold, a carved cameo, pearls, and various colored gemstones. The design and arrangement of stones are consistent with Post-Byzantine reliquary pendants and jewelry traditions.
