Description

An illuminated Ottoman Quran, copied by the scribe Hafiz Muhammad and dated 1257 AH (circa 1841-1842 AD). The volume is bound in dark reddish-brown morocco leather featuring a stamped and gilded central medallion with floral finials and gilded border rules. The opening double-page frontispiece is decorated with gold leaf and polychrome floral motifs in shades of blue, pink, and green, framing the Arabic text written in Naskh script. Throughout the manuscript, the black ink text is accented with red vocalization marks, gold-illuminated surah headings, and circular gold verse markers. A colophon on the final page identifies the scribe and provides the date.
