Description
This oil on canvas painting depicts a vibrant Middle Eastern or North African street scene in an Orientalist style. The composition features several figures in traditional dress gathered in a sunny courtyard before a large arched gateway and buildings, one of which is topped with a decorative dome and a crescent moon finial. A prominent palm tree stands to the left, and market stalls are visible to the right. The work is executed with visible, impressionistic brushwork and a palette of bright blues, whites, and earthy tones. It is signed and dated R. POSTHUMA 1952 in the lower right corner. The canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher.
