Description
AN ORIENTALIST OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING DEPICTS A NORTH AFRICAN STREET, SIGNED DAVID MALOOLM
An Orientalist oil on canvas painting by David Malcolm depicting a bustling Middle Eastern city square. The composition features a prominent mosque with a large golden dome and an architectural minaret set against a vibrant blue sky. Several figures in traditional dress are situated throughout the square, with some seated in the shade of tall trees on the right and others near colourful market stalls. The work is executed in a painterly style with visible impasto and a warm, sunlight-filled palette. The painting is signed David Maloolm in the lower right corner. The reverse of the canvas bears a manufacturer stencil for Winsor & Newton, Rathbone Place, London W. The wooden stretcher includes the handwritten word ORIGINAL and various inventory markings.
